Shale Ice

Each day feels a little less formal
Getting used to living in this new normal

Ever depleting levels of love and care
The waning feeling that life was ever fair

A gossamer surface feigning my protection
Barely hiding the pain of all the rejection

Trying to figure out the best way to be
Knowing no matter what, you’ll never see

The words say your support is full-blown
But the actions show, I’m on my own

How I thought we were, over the cliff hurled
Now clarifying my role and place in this world

Being in the same room, worlds apart
Doing it all with my broken heart
