I was looking on

As your family searched and searched for the most perfect one,
I was looking on.
When you sawed and struggled together and giggles had begun,
I was looking on.
As you adorned me with your most precious baubles and sparkly string spun,
I was looking on.
When the oldest man gave the oldest dame a little kiss for fun,
I was looking on.
As the littlest gasped when she saw me shining like the sun,
I was looking on.
When all the squishes prepared for the midnight visitor to come,
I was looking on.
As the giver filled the socks and the giving was done,
I was looking on.
When everyone gathered to honor the One,
I was looking on.
And as the adornments come down and the march of time has won, the warmth and love of me will evermore live on.

From me with thanks for a good run,
This year’s Christmas tree
