Everyone is You

At 3:40 am this morning, I woke up and the first two lines below were dancing around in my head. I picked up my phone to text them to myself and the rest came out.

A Monday morning sparklet for your consideration:

Everyone is You

The beginning of the story roots in the obscure:
A lost and weary traveler, looking for a cure
to the fear, the strife, and the anxiety
that holds us all back from what we could be.
We wallow in this vast yuck we see,
Longing just to be set free.
Stuck tight and fully trapped,
Resigned to stay; we will adapt.
We reach for the sky, one last scream,
Can they hear our desperate hope to redeem?
Then a hand reaches down into the void.
Another and another, dare we become overjoyed?
Those above help to pull us out,
Showing us what love is truly about.
One by one we enter the light,
With clearer vision, true strong sight.
No longer dwelling in the dark,
Always remembering to light a spark
for those behind whom in the dark remain.
We know the way out; we can explain.
For once you’ve beaten the awful night,
There’s a duty to instill in others the might
to endure and persist another day.
All hope is not lost, just on slight delay.
So if you are stuck in a scary place,
Scan your world for a friendly face.
Foster that flicker still alive in your heart,
Your time is coming, you’ll soon start.
Prepare yourself and hold close what is dear,
Your saving hand will soon appear.
When it does, do not turn away.
It is all on you to decide not to stay
  in the comfort of misery:
The stagnant, sad, familiarity
of life in the dark and mired pit.
In the glowing light, you deserve to sit.
So take your place in the bright, warm sun,
And help others get there ’til your time here is done.
